Who's Making Money

She claims she’s known since 2006 that this would be her last term. Could be, but (a) she’s changed her mind about the Senate before and (b) getting blown out by Rick Perry in the gubernatorial primary last year surely must have brought home to her what a 2012 primary would look like. Tea partiers want this seat, and one way or another, they’re probably going to get it. Why put herself through another brutal, expensive primary that’s likely to end in embarrassment?

I wonder what Olympia Snowe’s thinking right now.

Hutchison, first elected to the Senate in 1993, said the swearing-in of the new Congress, among other things, made her feel it was the right moment to announce her resignation.

She predicted that her departure from the political scene would set off a rampage of candidates looking to replace her.

“It’s just time for people to start making their plans,” Hutchison said. “Now it’s time for a new person.”

Likely Republican contenders to succeed her include Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert, state Sen. Florence Shapiro of Plano, Railroad Commissioners Elizabeth Ames Jones and Michael Williams, Weatherford car dealer Roger Williams, and Ted Cruz, a former Texas solicitor general and candidate for state attorney general.

Sound off, Texans: Who’s the favorite? Heard a lot of excitement for Williams on Twitter today after the news about KBH first broke. Via his campaign website, here he is on big government and health-care reform.

Update: A source familiar with Texas politics handicaps the race thusly:

The most amazing thing here is the level of talent that will be competing for this seat. There are several GOP candidates who are viable and would be good to great senators if elected.

Inside track – Lt Gov David Dewhurst. He’s a billionaire, so he can fund the race and defend the seat, and he holds what is actually the most powerful post in Texas government, so he has been collecting chits on this run for years.

Track 2 – AG Greg Abbott. The grassroots and Tea Parties adore Abbott. He has championed the anti-ObamaCare lawsuit, and is one of Texas’ absolute best stump speakers. He has also led a crackdown on deadbeat dads, which has earned him a lot of support in the middle.

Track 3 – Roger Williams. Former Texas Secretary of State, and he chaired the state Victory effort in 2008, raising $5 million in a couple of months. He’s wealthy, sharp, and may have the most experienced campaign talent on his side.

Track 4 – Michael Williams, Elizabeth Ames Jones, state Sen. Dan Patrick, former solicitor general Ted Cruz. Williams and Jones are both on the Railroad Commission, Williams has major grassroots support and is mindblowingly good at stump speeches, Patrick has a major Houston radio show and is very media savvy and well liked, Jones has money and some major backers of her own. Cruz is a bit of a dark horse (as is Patrick) but the grassroots love him and he’s also great on the stump. None of these candidates are bad candidates. All have held or currently hold major offices.

It will be a fascinating race to watch. There may be 20-25 candidates total on the GOP side, compared to 2 or 3 on the D side, with former Houston mayor Bill White leading that field. He was a terrible candidate for governor, no reason to think he’ll be any better running for Senate. The GOP keeps the seat, and chances are, gets a more conservative senator.

American Idol singer Alex Lambert reached the top 16 finalists last year and has been living the hard life in LA ever since – or so his story goes.

Alex tweeted that he’s been homeless and sleeping in alleyways and is in need of help.  Since when do the homeless and helpless tweet their discontent?

Season 9 American Idol alumnus Alex Lambert announced, via a string of posts to his Twitter feed, that he’s been living on the streets since he finished appearing on Simon Fuller’s Hulu reality series ‘If I Can Dream’, which wrapped its first season in October.   “Alright so I didn’t want to bring my person life to my fans but I’m about to freak out if I don’t tell yall the truth!” Lambert tweeted. “Ever since IICD ended I’ve been kinda homeless! Sleepin on the street and behind buildings.” A string of other tweets followed, where Lambert said that he’s “usually a strong person but I can’t take it anymore.” He continued: “I just want my fans to know that I’m not an American Idol type person!” And he finished by saying, “I just want y’all to know the truth!”

American Idol reps have been quick to point out that Alex isn’t homeless and that he gets paid every month.

A spokesperson for 19 Entertainment, an Idol production company that manages many of the show’s contestants, confirmed to that Lambert did tweet those messages. But the rep also claimed: “He’s not homeless. I don’t know where that came from.”

The spokesperson added evidence that Lambert, who’s on a development deal with 19, should have the means to pay for housing: “He’s on a retainer, and he’s getting money every month. He’s working on demos. He’s with writers, he’s working on music.”   Then the rep added: “He’s not homeless. How could he be texting? How could he be going into recording studio and sleeping on the streets? There’s no record deal yet, but hopefully with these demos something could come from that.”

Obviously the Idol people got to Lambert and made it clear that he better straighten things out before he REALLY becomes homeless… and less than 15 hours after the original ‘homeless’ tweets appeared, Lambert backtracked big time.

In a new bunch of tweets that hit Lambert’s feed, the singer backtracked saying there was a “miscommunication,” although he did admit to “crashin behind buildings and sleepin behind buildings.”  He added, over multiple tweets: “I’m a grown ass man. I’ve had so much help out here in LA! I just want to do things on my own! I have places to stay I just don’t want to be a burden on anyone! I have money! A nd soon I will have a place to stay! I just wanted to let y’all know! I’m not some rich spoiled kid!  That I’ve had to hustle and grind and I don’t mind sleepin on the street as long as I get my chance! Because I will not take it for granted! I hope y’all understand. Sorry for the miscommunication. I’m just fine!”

A top 16 finisher on American Idol who winds up homeless is either a druggie or very unusual.  The opportunities that are open for a contestant on that show assure that anyone who cares can get work and keep a roof over their head.  Alex Lambert is making a living – how dare he pretend to be homeless and thereby seek our sympathy.  What a bum.

Who Has The Best online reputation management Services

When vendors or people today fall prey to unfair opponents, irate ex-employees or disgruntled clientele, then a SERM will become crucial inside economic survival of a internet business.

Firms like SERMs are very important in preserving, and in some situations salvaging and restoring suppliers or person's status and excellent identify.

Online searches are one particular of the primary stuff that modern day consumes do prior to shelling out dollars using a online business or person, and 1 poor click can suggest economic disaster to get a enterprise, specifically within this ever developing cyber overall economy. Recognition for these SERMs are boosting by leaps and bounds together with the realization it is not prudent to try to conduct enterprise on this cyber age and never have a SERM on retainer coupled with your accountant and your legal professional.

Businesses are also appreciating the collateral advantage of having a Status Management firm on-board as an integral a part of their corporation model, its superb advertising! Even though securing a company's wonderful popularity and identify on the net, it generates excellent press and constructive publicity that eventually adds substantially to your bottom line of the company's balance sheet, creating the providers to literally pay out for itself in many circumstances.

This tends to be a very strong selling stage for organizations also as individuals, to understand that they're cleansing and guarding their reputations and cyber pictures, while at the same time operating an incredibly productive advertising initiative. Oftentimes providers absolutely disregard their former marketing efforts online and choose the benefits of On the web Reputation Management.

Getting a SERM firm on your aspect is while not a doubt the way in which to go within this cyber age. For extra data on online reputation management and corporate reputation management, Please visit us at http://removeripoffreports.net/

Whos Making Money

Life & Style has a new interview with Holly Madison in which she doesn’t hold back with her thoughts about her ex Hugh Hefner’s engagement to 24 year-old Crystal Harris. Holly has previously shown some restraint when asked to comment on her octogenarian ex boyfriend’s engagement, saying in part that she was “very surprised” and “have a lot of different feelings on it.” Now Holly is opening up about her feelings and she’s clearly angry that she didn’t score an engagement from Hef after riding his Viagra gravy train for seven years. In September, 2008, back when Holly and Hef were still together, Hef said that he loved Holly, but added that “she wants very much to get married and have children. That isn’t very much in the cards for me.” Holly was pushing for a proposal their whole relationship, and spoke openly about her frustration that Hef had yet to propose. So it definitely comes as a surprise to her that Hef put a ring on the next, younger one to come along:

Holly Madison, shocked to find out about her ex-boyfriend Hue Hefner’s marriage proposal to Crystal Harris over Christmas, is now breaking her silence in the new issue of Life & Style—on newsstands now—warning Hef to reconsider.

“I’d like to see Hef settle down,” Holly told Life & Style during the exclusive interview on Jan. 6. “I just want it to be with the right person, and I feel like he’s making a hasty decision. I’m not sure Crystal is the best thing for him.”

While Crystal, 24, moved into the Playboy Mansion only in January 2009, Holly was Hef’s right hand for six years until the two split in October 2008. “Crystal hasn’t been around very long — she’s a mysterious character,” says Holly. “No one knows much about her. Plus, she’s very young, probably too young to settle down. I’ve seen a lot of girls try to date Hef, and some have ulterior motives. I don’t think it would be a bad idea for him to get to know her a little better. I think it’s possible Crystal could break Hef’s heart. They could end up divorcing, and she could take half his money.”

So she arranged a face-to-face with the duo on Jan. 5 to witness the duo’s supposed joy for herself. “I wanted to check up in person,” Holly says about of the emotional encounter, which was filmed for season two of her E! reality series, Holly’s World (premiering on Jan. 23). “I told them that I wish them the best and that Crystal had better not do him wrong or else I’ll kick her butt. It was definitely awkward.”

In the end, Holly just hopes Hef has indeed found his perfect match. “I’m not jealous that he’d marry someone else. I just don’t want it to be a girl who’s using him to start her career,” she tells Life & Style. “Basically, I think he could do better than Crystal.”

Speaking via her manager, Michael Blakey, Crystal told Life & Style, “I’ve never been happier in my life. I’m so excited to be marrying Hef.”

[From Life & Style]

So Holly’s “not jealous” that Crystal scored an engagement from Hef after less than two years when she worked on him for seven with no success. She just thinks that Crystal has other motives and is using him. What were Holly’s motives then? Did she love Hef for his personality? I liked Holly on The Girls Next Door and I think she did love Hef and was better suited for him, given what little I know about Crystal, but she’s got some sour grapes going on. It’s not like Hef was going to take up with some woman half his age with her own career and ambitions. He’s a vehicle for these women and that’s why he’s able to score them so young. Holly may have loved Hef but she also loved what he could do for her.

Hefner recently re-purchased the majority share of Playboy, which is thought to indicate that he’s ready to leave the empire to his sons. Hopefully he’ll get an iron clad prenup with Crystal - if he ever does marry her.

Photo credit: PRPhotos. Check out Holly’s shoes. She looks ridiculous.

Thank God this con-man never targeted America: the U.K.'s Paul Bint posed as a banker, a lawyer, and a hospital consultant, bedding what he claims were 2,500 women along the way, and making away with 2 million pounds (approximately $3.1 million in today's money). The Daily Mail caught up with Bint -- who's been nicknamed "King Con" -- upon his recent release from a three-year jail term.

Although Bint claims, "If I could go back 25 years and start again I would," his interview hits some unrepentant notes as well. "What I've done is turned a lot of my dreams into reality," He told the Daily Mail. "I've gone that extra step. Instead of fantasizing what it would be like to own a Ferrari I went out and got one." Dealbreaker hypothesizes about which is the most plausible Bint lie here.)

So, now that Bint's (second) jail term is behind him, will he play by the rules? "...I can't say never again. Let's be honest, nobody would believe me if I said was going straight," he told the Daily Mail.

Many more details of his outrageous lies and manipulations can be found here

BBC's Crimewatch has put together an ingenious renactment of Bint's downfall. It began in a taxi cab.

foreclosure sales

Proponents of the rule of law were cheered last week by the Massachusetts Supreme Court's decision that banks had to prove they held a mortgage to foreclose on it, one of the niceties that has seemed to have gone by the wayside in the housing crisis.

Never fear, banksters, the Third Way has jumped in with a proposal [pdf] in response to the US Bank v. Ibanez decision in Massachusetts. Yves Smith takes a comprehensive look at the proposal.

Their proposal, not surprisingly, is yet another bailout.

The big difference between the original and the new, improved version of the bailout model is that the payouts to the banks were at least in part visible the first time around. This is an effort yet again to spare the banks any pain, not only at the cost of the rule of law but also of investor rights.

This proposal guts state control of their own real estate law when the Supreme Court has repeatedly found that "dirt law" is not a Federal matter. It strips homeowners of their right to their day in court to preserve their contractual rights, namely, that only the proven mortgagee, and not a gangster, or in this case, bankster, can take possession of their home.

This sort of protection is fundamental to the operation of capitalism, so it’s astonishing to see neoliberals so willing to throw it under the bus to preserve the balance sheets of the TBTF banks. Readers may recall how we came to have this sort of legal protection in the first place. England learned the hard way in the 17th century what happens with low documentation requirements: abuse of court procedures, perjury and corruption become the norm. Parliament enacted the 1677 Statute of Fraudsto establish higher standards for contracts, such as witnessing by a third party, to stop the widespread theft of property that was underway.

The memo completely ignores the harm to investors from the bank mistakes and lacks any provisions for damage to investors to be remedied.  Moreover, denying borrower rights removes their leverage to obtain deep principal mortgage modifications, which for viable borrowers produces lower losses than costly foreclosures and sales of distressed property. Thus this shredding of contractual protections in mortgages not only hurts borrowers but also harms investors.

So to save the banks from their own, colossal abuses of contracts that they devised, the Third Way document advocates Congressional intervention into well established, well functioning state law. This is a case where these matters can and should be left to the courts and ultimately state AGs to coordinate the template of a more broadbased solution.

But this proposal is this memo is a direct result of the banks losing in court and the fear that they will continue to lose.  The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Ibanez decision is clearly the trigger for the release of this plan. The SJC said its decision was merely articulating well established law.  Consistent application of these principles will mean more losses for the banks.  This memo is clearly an attempt to stop this as soon as possible. The real message of this document is clear: we can’t permit justice to prevail if it will hurt bank profits and balance sheets.

Why worry about what a bunch of wankers at Third Way propose? Because those wankers have emerged, particularly now with Third Way board of trustees member Bill Daley on his way to the White House (once he sells his $7.6 million worth of JP Morgan Chase stock). Yves writes, "These people sit at the nexus of politics and finance, and are conduits for big bank friendly information flow into the administration and Congress." When it comes to economic policy, they are frighteningly influential.

And as Marcy convincingly argues, they think there should not be any consequences for the banksters who have been illegally seizing people's homes. For the Third Way, the rule of law just doesn't apply to everybody.

Today, JPM announced results, which presumably beat on the top line, while the bottom line is largely irrelevant as banks continue to operate under the auspices of FASB mark-to-myth, and as such no numbers can be trusted. As for the improvement in the credit card business, cited largely as a reason for the $1.12 EPS beat compared to $1.00 consensus, when consumers don't have to pay mortgages, they at least can afford to pay for trinkets. Which is why we believe the bulk of the numbers in the company's 23 page Q4 earnings presentation are largely worthless. The two slides that however bear mentioning are 9 and 10, which deal with the elephant in the room, mortgage repurchasing risk, and the foreclosure process update. Below are the highlights, among which we find that as of Q4, the average delinquency at foreclosure for JPM is now 14 months.

Retail Financial Services – year-end 2010 reserve position

  • Mortgage repurchase risk assessed and appropriately reserved
    • Agency repurchase exposure
      • Repurchase losses life to date of $2.6B
      • End of period reserve balance of $3.0B; reserved for presented and probable future demands
      • 2011 realized losses estimated at $1.2B +/-
    • Private label exposure – we have significant reserves
  • Real Estate Portfolios
    • Total reserves of $9.7B (excluding WaMu purchased credit-impaired) remain; 4Q10 NCOs annualized (before one-time impact) of $4.6B
    • WaMu purchased credit-impaired portfolio is appropriately reserved for best estimate of remaining lifetime losses

Based on current conditions, we believe we are well-reserved going into 2011

Update on foreclosure process

We make every effort to avoid foreclosure

  • Offered over 1mm modifications; 285,000 completed
  • Prevented foreclosures at 2x the rate of those completed
  • 51 Chase Home Ownership Centers (CHOCs) – plan to add 25 more in 2011
  • 6,000 loss mitigation counselors to assist borrowers, across the country

Key facts about foreclosures

  • Average delinquency at foreclosure is 14 months
  • Recent foreclosure sales showed the following customer/loan characteristics:
    • 57% non-owner occupied, of which 52% were vacant at foreclosure
    • 43% owner-occupied, of which:
      • 25% were vacant at foreclosure
      • 53% did not qualify for modification (e.g., High DTI, unemployed, etc.)
      • 18% did not respond to solicitations or trial modifications

Update on foreclosure process

  • In September/October, we suspended approximately 127,000 foreclosures in 43 states
  • Enhanced foreclosure processes
    • All personnel involved in foreclosure affidavit process re-trained and re-certified
    • All loans subject to pre-foreclosure sale review to confirm foreclosures are appropriate
    • Implemented revised quality assurance and quality control processes
  • We are resuming foreclosure proceedings

All fine. We would certainly like to hear however how the bank can make the last claim when it is clearly counterfactual, and espcecially now in a "post-Ibanez" world, the firm finds itself at a huge disadvantage. We will be listening to the 9 am earnings call closely for details.

Affiliate Making Money

or if you aim big you can even advertise with Google Adwords and pay only if someone clicks your add:http://google.com/adwords4. Consider me your real business friend and start your first link exchange with my blog: ad my link to your blog or website and I shell do the same adding your link over here on  http://realbucksonline.blogspot.com/ Also consider that I will post a new method of making real bucks online every week so stay connected here via bookmark or RSS feed.
Ok: I am just a average guy like you, who aims to make a real buck on the net.
Now let*s face it: it is hard enough to put cents on cents in a few ptc sites and expect to earn a decent living by that. Plus that all this so called business to be payed to click it*s like rolling the dice: you*re never sure finally you get the money. So what*s the catch with this game?
The most important thing in it is to get referrals : directly or rented ones. And the second important thing is to relay on the most trusted and stable sites. This is like betting on the most probable winner with a Team of Betters behind you.
Now,the first rule in business is to MEAN it. Not necessarily to be mean but to be serious about it. So if you think to make a living online you must be serious, hard working and learn it every step of the way. By all means you will get to SUCCEED IN TIME. With the second important thing, related to paying and stable sites you can get help from average experience or custom search on the net for top paying sites on Google. The really heavy duty thing is to build a Team of Referrals. According to this, the most affordable approach is to rent them with the amount of money you already earned on a site. The difficult part is to convince a direct referral to join in your   downline and be active on every day. This is like direct-sales in the real world: 50% chances (or less) to make them buy something which is more a game than a business. The rest of 50% is advertising or make believe (super-fantasizing) that something is useful and generates a sort of monthly real income. This fantasies go from promises of other great deals to even promises of 10(ten!) dollars per click:) And believe me, there are sites which ”offer” more than that, even the moon from the sky, just to get you join their scam. There are two kind of experiences related to this ”make believes”: one is to be a realistic guy by nature and the second is to try things until they prove lies. Everyone is preferring the first category except the advertisers, who are preferring the second one. Well, if you want to really be in the first category, and play this ptc game, you have to discern between a real buck and a promised one, in Neverland. You may say that each and every dime is just a promise in the ptc virtual world, until that dime profs it*s real in your pocket. It*s true but that does not mean you stop discerning reality from dreams. You must keep your goal to make real money online, gather experience and build a system that really works keeping you satisfied with your decent earnings and little, indecent losses.
That is why I thought of a system for everyone to get referrals. Scroll down and find out how much you will pay for it!
(just kidding Stay tuned on this site and you will found it soon. Have a winning day everyone!

managing personal finances

We are mere days away from 2011, and still happily ensconced in the holiday madness of 2010. This jolly season, which usually kicks off at Halloween, is a fast-moving fog of candy, cookies, cards and frenzy at the malls. It is also hopefully full of joy, laughter and quality time with family.

After the season’s last hurrah on New Year’s, what emerges is a renewed sense of spirit for the coming year –- and sometimes a desire to undo everything that has just been done. This is precisely why most people hit the ground running on January 1 with a resolve to lose weight, get in shape, walk the dog more, and so on.

The following roundup contains apps that can serve as trusty sidekicks to help you keep those resolutions you swear you’ll actually follow through on this year. In addition to personal health, other common resolutions include managing finances more efficiently, quitting smoking, finding a better job and finding love. There are obviously many more apps out there for each category, but I’ve hand-picked twelve to help you get 2011 off to a good start. Happy New Year!

Losing Weight/>

Lose It!/>

Lose It is a great, easy-to-use app that provides users with features for managing and tracking their weight loss and fitness goals. With an extensive database of foods and nutritional information available, you can simply scroll through the options and log what you have consumed for the day to get a total calorie count. The app also tracks calories burned through fitness and shows where you’ve gone over or under your caloric requirements for weight loss each day.

Cost: FREE

Go Meals/>

A dieter’s dilemma: You’re eating out at a restaurant and have no idea what the best choices are that are still suitable for your dieting needs. Go Meals is a helpful app for those moments when you’re out at P.F. Chang’s and want to know if the Mongolian Beef is less caloric than the Orange Peel Beef (it’s not). This app also includes thousands of listings for grocery store foods and provides full nutritional information for foods you eat on a daily basis. When an item has been chosen, you can save them to “Today’s Plate” and keep a log of your caloric, fat and protein intake. A very handy tool.

Cost: FREE

Getting in Shape/>

Fitness Free/>

This is a great free app that provides photographs and detailed steps for each of its more than 320 exercises. Essentially every major muscle group is reflected and you can use this app to get good ideas for triceps, quads or any other body part that you want to improve. There is also a section offering a small selection of pre-bundled, three-day workouts, or you can select exercises of your choosing and create your own customized workout.

Cost: FREE

iPersonalTrainer/>

iPersonalTrainer prompts users to create a workout and select which muscle groups they want to work by pointing to them on a (very buff) illustrated man. The app then takes you to a page with instructional videos for each exercise along with tips for good technique. The app also includes a Body Mass Index (BMI) calculator, weight tracker and progress log so you can keep track of your workouts while you get that hard body.

Cost: $.99

Organizing Finances/>

Pay Off Debt/>

Pay Off Debt provides a good template for users to track and manage all current balances and debts. Using an intuitive interface and the debt snowball method, this app lets you prioritize debts and see estimated times left to pay off each one. You can plan monthly payments for each and view progress bars as you begin chipping away at what’s owed. Based on your payment schedule, the app will also provide you with a date for when you are completely debt-free.

Cost: $3.99

Mintclass="blippr-nobr">Mint/>

Mint is a free app that automatically syncs all of your financial information directly from your online banking accounts, eliminating the need to manually enter all information. You can set up budgets and categories with spending limits on each; track your incoming and outgoing income; track investment accounts and more. The app also alerts you to things like large purchases, when a check clears, or if you go over budget. Quitter/>

Quitter is an app that takes a slightly different approach. This lets users track progress by reminding them how long they’ve been smoke-free and how much money they have saved thus far. Users can refer to the app on a daily basis and keep track of how long they’ve gone without smoking and what they would have spent if they had continued.

Cost: FREE

Getting a Better Job/>

Monster.com Jobs/>

As one of the largest job search sites available, the Monster.com app is a great complement for anyone with a Monster account (which is free to register) and gives users access to the same listings they’d find online. The app automatically syncs with your web-based account and enables you to access saved job listings, resumes, saved searches and more from your iPhone. You can also use the iPhone’s built-in GPS system to locate jobs near you.

Cost: FREE

What Color is Your Parachute?/>

You’ve found the job you want, but the next step is the interview. The expression, “You never get a second chance to make a first impression,” couldn’t be truer when it comes to this opportunity, which is likely the only time you have to sell yourself and demonstrate why you are a fit for the job. The What Color is Your Parachute? app is a complement to the eponymous job-seekers’ “bible” and walks users through the job interview process and how to nail it. Tips on interview questions and questions to ask are featured, as well as top 10 mistakes to avoid. It’s a good read for anyone who is preparing for a big interview.

Cost: FREE

Finding Love/>

Dating DNA/>

Unlike other dating apps that require you to have an existing subscription to its web-based site, or are sketchier and only use GPS-navigation to track “singles near you,” Dating DNA is a free app and service that matches people based on compatibility scores. When you are deemed compatible by the app, based on both your ratings, you are then able to view each other’s profiles and connect. The app also provides “at-a-glance” compatibility scoring and dating potential indicators to help you determine if your potential mate is worth pursuing.

Cost: FREE

Love Survival Kit/>

If you need help in the love department and are looking for advice on what to do in certain situations, wikiHow’s Love Survival Kit is a good resource to have. There is plenty of information and dating advice for categories like “Awkward Situations” (ex. Escape Cuddling in Bed); “Breaking Up” (ex. Keep a Friendship After a Breakup) or “Relationship Skills” (ex. Stop Being Needy). Some of articles can be more funny than useful, but then again, sometimes with dating, people need all the help they can get.

I’ve spent hours of my life toiling over virtual cities in Maxis’ Sim City series, and it must have rubbed off after all these years. I still enjoy meticulously planning infrastructure, zoning and carefully tweaking finances to this day.

The other day whilst trying to work, I accidentally (oops) went looking for some online heirs to the Sim City throne. Despite simple Flash games lacking the depth of even the original Sim City, I guessed there had to be a few decent, free city building games out there.

id="more-61297">

ElectroCity

style="text-align: center;">

A simple turn-based Flash game created by New Zealand energy company Genesis Energy to give players young and old a shot at managing a town or city’s growth and impact. Players must pay close attention to the levels of energy used, sustainability and environmental factors.

Players are given 151 turns to alter tax rates, build things, destroy things and generally oversee the planning of a city from an environmental point of view. It is up to you to keep your citizens happy, maintain finances and get the highest score possible out of 100 available points.

If you’re seeking inspiration then there’s plenty of completed cities to gawp at, and you can even save your progress and come back to it at a later point. Remember – it’s all about balance.

IBM CityOne

style="text-align: center;">

A very in-depth city management game that allows you to choose one of four aspects of city life to manage – energy, water, retail and banking. This game also uses a turn-based system which scores you after each turn made.

There’s a fairly chunky registration form to fill out before you can play (which asks for all sorts of intrusive data) but the game itself functions well, especially if you’re a business-minded individual.

Your city starts off sketchy and greyscale, with colour gradually introduced as you implement much-needed change. At times it plays like a big advert for IBM, but remains enjoyable and looks pretty good to boot. Probably not great on slower PCs, especially those with an aversion to resource-heavy Flash.

City Creator

style="text-align: center;">

Not necessarily a simulation or a management game, City Creator simply allows you to do just that – create a sprawling landscape from a set of pre-fabricated buildings and features.

The game features charming pixel art from and an isometric viewpoint, which complements the laid back style of play. Simply drag items from the left hand side of the screen to your city on the right and see what you come up with.

There are 3 building sets to choose from, each with their own unique style. If you register on the site you can save your creations and share them with your friends. If you just want to build a city then City Creator should entertain for a while at least. Be sure to check out their other project Castleford.

Zanpo Virtual Cities

style="text-align: center;">

Lovers of Minecraft and pixel art rejoice in this Flash block-based city building game. Instead of building preset structures and features Zanpo Virtual Cities allows you to build fairly detailed city blocks using individual building pieces.

Users then vote on the best ones, and they get added to the virtual city. This one strikes me a bit like online Lego, and the emphasis is very much on building and not management.

You’ll need to register to build, or you can simply choose a city from the drop down list and click City View and see what everybody else has been building.

CityVille

style="text-align: center;">

I know, I know. You’re sick of FarmVille, so why on earth do you want to hear about CityVille? Well considering there’s already more than 20 million people playing it I figured it would be an injustice to not include it on the list.

If you’re fine with yet another application accessing all your personal data and posting whatever it feels like to your wall then CityVille might appeal. The game is a casual Sim City-esque sim in which you take a humble town and turn it into a sprawling metropolis.

Graphically the game looks awesome, and there’s the added social interactions provided by the Facebook platform. If only it didn’t clog up your feeds, eh?

There are a few more Facebook games, that I’ve left out (it’s quite a saturated market, and Facebook isn’t for everyone).  If you’re interested, they were:

  • Social City
  • Millionaire City
  • Hollywood City

Have you found any other cool city building games? Do you prefer building or managing? Let us know in the comments!
